This is the first time to have an ESBRA conference or any meeting on Alcoholism in Romania. Romania is a diverse and beautiful country in the South Eastern Part of Europe with a long and rich history and cultural heritage, one of the most dynamically growing economies in Europe.

As part of ESBRA’s major goal to support, network and promote education, science and patient care in alcohol-related disorders, we are establishing for the first time a general CME credited postgraduate course on Alcoholism and Alcohol-related disorders, targeted not only for the specialist but also to wider audience including medical students and general practitioners or specialists from other medical areas.

A young investigator event is also scheduled. In addition, the Nordmann Award satellite symposium will be held and the Nordmann Award will be given, since the Madrid 2020 meeting had to be postponed due to SARS-COV2 pandemic.

As is the tradition of almost 40 years of ESBRA conferences, cutting-edge science and the newest developments in diagnosis and therapy will be discussed by international renowned experts form Europe and around the world. This congress will also bring insights about recent advances on basic research and innovations in the research field of alcohol use disorder and its comorbidities with all the alcohol-related pathologies. The meeting will provide the opportunity to share idea between researchers from the different fields and countries.

Timisoara is a lively and welcoming city with many facets! The charm of this city, settled on the banks of the Bega River, lies in its distinct architectural character and vibrant cultural life. Frequently referred to as “Little Vienna,” Timisoara is home to year-round musical and theatrical performances, art galleries, museums and a buzzing nightlife. A progressive, cosmopolitan place, Timisoara was the first city in Europe and second in the world after New York, to use electricity to illuminate its public streets. Timisoara was the first European city to introduce horse-drawn trams (in 1869) and electrical street lighting (in 1889).

You can discover the treasures of its architectural, historical heritage and gastronomic specialties. Discover a unique way of life and a unique atmosphere.

We plan a get-together party, which will take place at “Curtea Berarilor” (Brewer’s Court) a restaurant situated in the City Center.

We are sure that Timisoara will be a magnificent location to host a memorable 18th ESBRA Congress in which high quality science, excellent medical training and the experience of an excellent city will be blended.

We will be very happy to welcome you to Timisoara.
